ALBANESE LABOR GOVERNMENT TO DELIVER KEY PRINCES HIGHWAY CORRIDOR

16 November 2023

THE HON STEPHEN JONES MP

ASSISTANT TREASURER
MINISTER FOR FINANCIAL SERVICES

MEMBER FOR WHITLAM

ALISON BYRNES MP

MEMBER FOR CUNNINGHAM

Member for Cunningham, Alison Byrnes MP and Member for Whitlam, Stephen Jones MP welcome today’s announcement that funding had been secured for the vital Princes Highway Corridor in the Illawarra, including the upgrade of the Mt Ousley Interchange.

The announcement follows the Commonwealth Government’s independent strategic review which found that the Infrastructure Investment Program inherited from the former Coalition Government was undeliverable.

Under the Liberals and Nationals, the number of projects in the Infrastructure Investment Program blew out from nearly 150 to 800.

The Albanese Government is committed to delivering the infrastructure Australia needs, creating jobs and growing the economy while not increasing pressure on inflation.

Today’s announcement that important local projects will form part of a new Princes Highway Corridor comes after years of current and former Labor Members of Parliament advocating on behalf of the Illawarra community for the infrastructure upgrades.

The Princes Motorway is the only road in and out of the Illawarra capable of handling the volume and size of traffic needed to support commuters coming to and from Greater Sydney and our growing local industry.

It is the economic artery that ensures products like new cars, trucks and buses from the Port make their way to the showroom floor and BlueScope’s world class steel can find its way to market.

The Albanese Labor Government is delivering infrastructure that creates jobs and helps wages grow, and makes our communities better connected and more liveable.
