My vision for our region
we need a strong economy with a vibrant community at its centre.
one hundred years ago australians campaigned for Rights at Work. we were among the first in the world to achieve a basic wage based on the “eight hour day” – eight hours of work, eight hours of rest and eight hours of recreation.
While much has changed since
we began this quest to build a just and prosperous country, Labor
still stands for the same things.
We stand for the rights of working people. We stand for building a better quality of life and for providing a great community, a clean environment and the time to enjoy it.
I firmly believe that if our region is to continue to grow and prosper, we must have a clear vision that unites us – our shared vision for the region.
A vision that builds on the best traditions of Labor and adapts them for the 21st century. A vision that clearly states how we make this region a great place to work,
a great place to live and a great place to play.
A place where our values of fairness, equality and social justice are lived every day. A place where our ethnic diversity, arts and sporting culture enrich our lives.
I hope you’ll agree – that with a strong advocate like me in Canberra, our region has a bright future with a strong economy and a vibrant community at its centre.
