Volunteers Grants Now Open

2016 VOLUNTEER GRANTS NOW OPEN   Sharon Bird and Stephen Jones today announced that the 2016 Volunteer Grants program is now open for applications.   Grants of between $1000 and $5000 were available to local volunteer organisations to purchase small equipment items, contribute towards the cost of training courses and background checks, and to help to reimburse volunteers for the cost of their fuel or transport.

Last year in Cunningham, 47 local volunteer organisations received a total of $181, 536 in funding. In Whitlam, 40 local organisations received $151,964 in grants to support their activities.

Sharon Bird said the grants helped local sporting groups, surf clubs, school committees, community groups and charities to support their volunteers.

“Local volunteers provide a vital role in supporting organisations to help the community. These grants help to provide local groups with the support they need to carry out their services for the community.

Stephen Jones said that the grants helped to take some of the fundraising burden off volunteer organisations.

“Local organisations work hard to raise funds to purchase equipment and to cover administrative costs and the Volunteer Grants help organisations to purchase the equipment they need and help with costs without having to fundraise.
