Marriage Equality

I've got to say that along with having kids, getting married has been the best thing to happen in my life and I know so many other people feel the same way too. But marrying the person you love is a right not afforded to everyone and I want everyone to be able to marry the person they love.

While I don't agree that the Government's Marriage Equality Postal Survey is the right way to go about it, I support the 'YES'
campaign - along with my colleagues in the Labor party.

Check your enrolment
For you to have your say, make sure you check your enrolment with the Australian Electoral Commission at  You
need to be properly enrolled to receive your survey forms in the post. The electoral roll closes for new enrolments or updates on midnight, Thursday, 24 August 2017. So please make sure you are up to date.

I Support Marriage Equality
I've always supported equal rights and that's what marriage equality is all about - equal rights. In 2010, not long after being elected to the federal parliament, I spoke about the need to achieve equal treatment for same sex couples including marriage. You can watch my speech by going to this link or read the full speech here.
Nothing about this debate has changed for me - except that we've wasted seven years! We need to fix this now!

If you'd like to stay in the loop on this campaign, you can connect with Illawarra Rainbow Labor for Equality. This group is running Labor's 'yes' campaign and can provide you all the information you need to show your support for marriage equality. Please consider sharing this image on your social networks to let your friends and families know you're voting YES.

Oh, and if you can, show your support for our LGBTI friends and families, by proudly flying the rainbow flag out the front of your home in solidarity. Contact Illawarra Rainbow Labor for Equality if you'd like to arrange for one.
