In February I attended llawarra Senior College’s Excellence Assembly.
With students from years 10, 11 and 12, Illawarra Senior College offers extensive curriculum choices for young people.
After a couple of short speeches the award winners – 21 in all – are called to the stage one by one.
With the exception of the Dux for 2009 – Phillip Green, about to begin a scholarship at UNSW – all the award winners are about to start their final year of the HSC. The message is from the staff is clear – the achievements of students will be recognised. Everyone will be encouraged and supported.
The winner of the Jennie George prize for most outstanding female student is Natasha D’Allessio.
Natasha’s recently returned to the area following a spell living overseas. A previous adventure involved a stint volunteering in an Ethiopian Orphanage, which led to a gong from the local Lions Club.
This year, Natasha will be studying Extension Two English (four unit), Extension Two Modern History, Advanced Maths, Chemistry. She is aiming to go to university and hopes to study a double degree in Law and Journalism.
Congratulations to the award winners and best wishes to all the students in their endeavours for 2010. My thanks to the staff from Ilawarra Senior College for their warm hospitality.
