OXLEY VETERAN’S ROUNDTABLE

Today, Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Shadow Minister for Defence Personnel, Amanda Rishworth MP and Federal Member for Oxley Milton Dick MP will host the ‘Oxley Veterans’ Roundtable’ at the Oxley electorate office in Forest Lake.

The roundtable will feature representatives from each of the electorates RSL Sub Branches.

This will be followed by a visit to the Cementco Bowls Club, home of the Darra and District RSL Sub Branch to inspect the proposed site of a replica Anzac Cove memorial statue.

The afternoon will see Ms Rishworth and Mr Dick visit the Springfield Light Tower alongside President of the Springfield Light Tower Association Damien Gillett.

“We have some of the most dedicated and hardworking RSL Sub Branches here in Oxley,” said Mr Dick.

“They all do a tremendous job of representing our veterans and this roundtable will provide an opportunity for us to provide new avenues to better support their invaluable work”.

This important gathering of representatives comes just a few days after Australian’s paused for Remembrance Day.

“As we continue to commemorate the Centenary of Anzac, I would also like to recognise the significant anniversary of 100 years since the Battle of Pozieres and Fromelles.”

“This year we also recognise 50 years since the Vietnam War’s Battle of Long Tan” said Mr Dick.

Labor's Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Shadow Minister for Defence Personnel, Amanda Rishworth MP was pleased to join Mr Dick in his electorate and to express Labor's commitment to supporting veterans groups.

Ms Rishworth said, “It was great to meet with the veterans’ community of Oxley today.

“Today’s roundtable provides a platform for veterans to tell their story, and for us to listen.

“Their stories and experiences provide invaluable knowledge on how we can better support their community.”
